Why does NASCAR race on road courses?

It is such a waste. NASCAR's stock cars are simply not built for road course racing. They're too big and too heavy. They can't corner nearly as easily as F1 or Indy cars. NASCAR fans are not road course fans...if they were they would be following other circuits of racing.
