Does nobody have a problem with the US citizenship oath?
Dont get me wrong... i am an ardent admirer of america and have lived in the US for 15 years now (and i travel very widely across the world) My problem is with the oath: the words of the oath are so written that i cannot, in good faith, repeat those words... i am not saying I am very patriotic (in fact i think flag waving is dumb) in case you dont know: the words go: right from "renouncing all loyalties to foreign state, prince or potentate" to promising to "bear arms for the US" and they end with a mention of God (something i dont believe in) I looked up the net to see if other people felt the same way... surprsingly everyone on the web seems to be talking about how proud they felt to take the oath... is this common or is it just that the proud ones bother to post their experiences on message boards? how can one just promise to kick all foreign loyalties in the backside without feeling like he is selling himself?
